I love this first photo of Liv and Josh with their wedding party because the expression on their faces gives you a glimpse of how loved this couple is! Everyone at their wedding was cheering them on because everyone there knew one thing: these two were made for one another! And their love and kindness has touched so many people (including myself).

A winter wedding at Cambridge Mill
Winter weddings have a magic all their own, and Liv and Josh’s day at Cambridge Mill was the perfect example. Fresh snow on the ground, soft winter light and the grey stone of the old mill made everything feel calm, cozy and timeless.
Liv wore a soft white knit layer over her gown and carried a deep red bouquet with winter greenery, which looked stunning against the snow. Her bridesmaids wore navy, and the guys were sharp in dark suits. Together they made one of the happiest wedding parties I’ve ever photographed: just look at that first photo of everyone cheering on the stone steps!
Portraits in the snow and by the river
Cambridge Mill sits right on the Grand River, surrounded by stone walls and staircases that look beautiful in every season. In winter, the snow softens everything and makes the stone glow. We spent part of the afternoon outside on the steps and along the walls, and then warmed up indoors.
Inside, the Mill’s tall windows look straight out over the snowy river. Some of my favourite photos from the day are the quiet ones: Liv sitting in a window seat with her bouquet, and the two of them standing together in front of those big windows with the winter river behind them.
Planning a winter wedding
- Bring a warm layer. A knit cardigan, wrap or faux-fur stole keeps you comfortable outdoors and adds texture to your photos.
- Plan short bursts outside. Ten or fifteen minutes in the snow is plenty, and Cambridge Mill has beautiful indoor spots to warm up in.
- Watch the clock. Winter days are short, so I’ll help you plan portraits for the best light of the afternoon.
- Choose rich colours. Deep reds, greens and navy look gorgeous against snow and stone.
