Elora Mill Hotel & Spa is one of the most breathtaking wedding venues in Ontario. Set in a historic stone mill above the Grand River and the Elora Gorge, it feels like a destination wedding, just a short drive from Kitchener-Waterloo. As a Kitchener wedding photographer who has photographed both a wedding and an engagement session here, I know how beautifully the mill, the gorge and the village streets photograph. If you’re planning an Elora Mill wedding, this guide shares my favourite photo spots, how to plan your timeline, and what to expect when we work together.

Elora Mill brings together three settings in one place: the historic limestone mill itself, the dramatic cliffs and river of the Elora Gorge, and the charming stone streets of the village. Inside, exposed stone, warm wood and big windows keep the light soft and flattering. Outside, the river and the gorge give your photos a sense of place you won’t find anywhere else in the region.
It’s a venue for couples who want an elegant, timeless day with a little adventure in it, from a quiet first look by the water to golden-hour portraits under the trees.

Plan time for the gorge. The gorge is so close that it’s easy to include, but it deserves its own time on the schedule. I suggest 45 to 60 minutes for couple portraits, split between the mill and the gorge, plus time for the wedding party and family formals. I help every couple plan their timeline so the day feels relaxed, not rushed.
Plan for golden hour. The light through the trees and over the river is magical in the evening. I recommend setting aside 15 to 20 minutes for sunset portraits. I’ll let you know the exact time for your date and help build it into your schedule.
Choose the right coverage. Most couples at Elora Mill choose full-day coverage, from getting ready in the suites through the first dances, so the whole story is told.
Think about the season. Fall is stunning here, with warm colours along the gorge and the river. Summer brings lush greenery, and the stone buildings look beautiful in every season.
Have a rain plan. Rain happens, and it can be beautiful! Some of my favourite Elora photos were taken under umbrellas, with wet stone streets glowing in the lamplight. The mill’s rooms also photograph beautifully indoors, and I always scout covered spots ahead of time.

Here’s an Elora Mill wedding and an engagement session I’ve had the honour of photographing:

Yes. I’ve photographed a wedding and an engagement session at Elora Mill, and I know the property, the gorge and the village well, including where the light is best at different times of day and where to go if the weather changes.
Many couples book 12 to 18 months ahead, especially for popular summer and fall dates. I’m currently booking 2027 and 2028 weddings.
