D and R’s early June wedding

D and R’s wedding at The Lavender Farm was relaxed, romantic and full of personality. In early June the lavender rows were still lush and green, and the soft, overcast light was perfect for portraits all day long.

A first look in the barn

Their first look happened inside the big barn, with string lights hanging from the old beams. The groom wore a cream suit with a grey shirt, and the bride wore a sleek, simple gown with a long veil scattered with pearls, one of my favourite trends of 2024. The way they held each other in that quiet barn says everything about these two.

Portraits in the lavender

The bride came down the aisle from the open barn doors, and the emotion on the guests’ faces was so sweet to capture. Afterwards we walked between the lavender rows, spent a few minutes under the timber pavilion, and found a white geometric arch out in the field that made a striking frame for a kiss. That pearl veil caught the breeze in the most beautiful way.

Flash photos after dark

Once the sun went down, we used flash for a few bold, fun portraits outside, a look so many couples are asking for now. Between the cake, the dancing and those last night photos, it was the perfect end to the day.

Tips for a Lavender Farm wedding

  1. Think about timing. Early in the season the lavender is green and soft; later in the summer the rows turn purple.
  2. Use the barn. String lights and old beams make a cozy, private spot for a first look in any weather.
  3. Try flash after dark. A few flash portraits at night give your gallery a fun, editorial finish.
