The Walper Hotel | Downtown Kitchener Wedding | Goudies Lane | B + K

This was my first time shooting at The Walper Hotel and I was swooooning! Brittany and Kyle picked such a fun urban setting for their downtown Kitchener wedding! Here’s a sneak peek into their special day!

A downtown Kitchener wedding at The Walper Hotel

The Walper Hotel is a historic boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Kitchener, and it’s a dream for couples who love a mix of old-world character and modern style. Bright white rooms, tall windows, a chandelier-lit ballroom and the colourful laneways just outside give you an editorial city wedding without ever leaving the block.

Brittany and Kyle got ready at the hotel and had their first look in one of its sunlit rooms, which made for soft, flattering light from the very first photo. We used the vintage chesterfield, the plants and the clean white walls for portraits, then brought in a little fun with an oversized “LOVE” balloon and an old bicycle.

Goudies Lane and the city

One of my favourite things about a Walper Hotel wedding is how close everything is. A short walk takes you to Goudies Lane, with its bright murals and brick walls, so the wedding party photos have real colour and energy. We finished with portraits right outside the hotel under the classic Walper Hotel sign.

Ceremony and reception

The ceremony was indoors, with white florals and blue chairs, and the reception moved into the ballroom for toasts, dinner and a first dance under the chandeliers. Downtown at night has its own glow, and the evening portraits show it.

Planning a Walper Hotel wedding

  • Getting ready: the hotel rooms have large windows and bright walls, which give lovely, natural light.
  • Portraits: Goudies Lane and the surrounding streets are a few minutes’ walk away; plan 30 to 45 minutes to explore.
  • First look: a quiet room or the lobby before guests arrive works beautifully and keeps the timeline relaxed.
  • Evening: save ten minutes after dinner for night portraits with the city lights.
