Summer wedding at the Waterloo Regional Police Association and Recreation Centre, and bridal party photos at Mill Race Park in Cambridge, Ontario

A summer wedding in Cambridge

This August wedding had it all: a ceremony under big shade trees at the Waterloo Regional Police Association and Recreation Centre, bridal party photos at Mill Race Park on the Grand River, and a reception that kept everyone dancing late into the night.

Getting ready

The morning was full of laughter and champagne, poured into vintage coupes tied with ribbon. The bridesmaids wore soft seafoam dresses, and the bride’s long, wavy hair and fitted gown with its long, lace-trimmed train were simply stunning.

The ceremony

Guests sat on white chairs under the trees, facing a wooden pergola draped in white and dressed with pink lilies, purple blooms and pink gerberas. The groom wore a light grey suit, his groomsmen wore black, and after they were pronounced married, the two of them walked back down an aisle scattered with petals, all smiles.

Mill Race Park

Then we headed to Mill Race Park. The stone ruins and riverside railings there make such a great backdrop for a big, fun wedding party, and the bridesmaids’ peach and orange bouquets popped against the water. We finished with portraits of the two of them against the old stone walls, with that long train spread out on the path.

The reception

The reception room was dressed in white ceiling draping with a soft curtain backdrop, a tiered dessert display and personal touches on every table. After their first dance, the dance floor filled up and stayed that way.

Tips for a summer wedding in Cambridge

  1. Split your locations. A ceremony venue plus a nearby park gives you variety without a long drive.
  2. Use the river. Mill Race Park’s railings and stone walls are made for group photos.
  3. Plan for a big wedding party. Leave extra time for group shots and the fun, candid moments in between.
