Hamilton Wedding Photographer: Royal Botanical Gardens, Ancaster and Dundas

Filed in Wedding — January 22, 2025

Hamilton has some of the most dramatic backdrops in Ontario: the escarpment, sweeping city views, botanical gardens and waterfall lookouts. It’s an easy drive from Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge, and I love bringing couples here for weddings, engagement sessions and day-after shoots. As a wedding photographer for over 10 years, I know how to make the most of every one of these spots.

Here are a few of my favourite places to photograph in and around Hamilton, with real galleries so you can see how each one photographs.

Royal Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens give you lush gardens, winding paths and soft, beautiful light for wedding portraits. It’s a perfect choice for couples who want natural, romantic photos with endless variety in one place.

Sam Lawrence Park

Sam Lawrence Park sits on the edge of the escarpment with a view over the whole city. Stay until the sun goes down and the light is incredible.

J + J did both: the day after their wedding, we drove to the Royal Botanical Gardens and then finished overlooking the city from Sam Lawrence Park at sunset. It’s my favourite proof that you don’t need to take every wedding photo on the wedding day. See J + J’s Royal Botanical Gardens and Sam Lawrence Park session.

Knollwood Golf Club, Ancaster

Knollwood Golf Club in Ancaster is a lovely setting for an outdoor tent wedding, with open green space and a beautiful reception setup under the tent. See N + J’s outdoor tent wedding at Knollwood.

Dundas Peak

For adventurous couples, the hike to Dundas Peak is so worth it. You’re literally on top of the world, with views over the valley that make for epic engagement photos. See K + S’s Dundas Peak engagement.
